Orchestra is designed primarily for 6th grade students who have up to one year of experience playing a string instrument. Students with no experience playing an instrument are also welcome, but need to let Mr. Fang know before the start of the school year. Students who want to switch instruments are also welcomed but would need to consult with Mr. Fang in the beginning of the school year. In addition to the two schoolwide concerts each year, we will have one 6th grade music field trip in the second quarter. Students will be provided with the primary method book for the school year: Measures of Success, Book 1, published by the FHJ Music company Inc.
Intermediate Orchestra is designed primarily for 7th grade students who have at least one year of experience playing a string instrument. Students will continue to develop their skills on their instrument and begin to participate in festivals and competitions. In addition to the two schoolwide concerts each year, we will participate in the SCSBOA festival and Music in the Parks competition. Students will be provided with the primary method book for the school year: Measures of Success, Book 2, published by the FHJ Music company Inc.
Advanced Orchestra is designed primarily for 8th grade students. This is the top string performing group at Travis Ranch Middle School. In addition to the two schoolwide concerts each year, we will perform in many school functions and assemblies, SCSBOA festival and a Disney/Knott’s workshop/performance. Students will be provided with the primary method book for the school year: Sound Innovations- Book 2, published by Alfred Music Publishing.
TRMS Chamber Ensemble is an auditioned honors chamber ensemble that performs at outreach events and school-wide concerts. There are 8 spots available and students from any of the three orchestras can apply. Students in this ensemble will perform music that is more rigorous and will have opportunities to mentor elementary string students. Students accepted will rehearse together at least once a week during lunch. Interested students will be assigned audition times during the second week of school and the auditions will be held during the third week of school.
